Understanding the Cost of Home Care and How to Pay for it – HouseWorks

When you contemplate in-home care options, you’ll undoubtedly consider cost as one of the factors if you are paying out of pocket. When compared to the sky-high costs of nursing homes or assisted living (especially in states like Massachusetts), the price of home care can seem like a bargain. If you have decided that in-home care is right for you, you may be wondering what home care costs and how to pay for it. Learn more about rates and payment options.A home caregiver is, after all, a stranger being allowed into your private living space or the home of a loved one. Seniors in need of home care services are often in highly vulnerable situations. It would not be wise to allow an unqualified, poorly trained, or dangerous person into the home.We think you will agree that when choosing a home caregiver for yourself or a loved one – high quality is significantly more important than a low price. At HouseWorks, we insist on delivering the best in-home care for seniors, and we won’t skimp on quality of care (even if we lose on price).Long-Term Care Insurance In addition to paying on your own, another option is long-term care insurance, or LTCi, a common form of insurance that can cover many of the costs associated in home care for seniors. When considering senior care options, it’s important to understand the benefits you or your loved one are entitled to through your LTCi carrier.

Is There Truly a Home Care Bargain Out There? | Quality Care

Many people try to find a bargain when searching for care, but our providers of in home care services in Concord & nearby areas advise caution. Live Free Home Health Care, a trusted provider of home care services in Concord and the surrounding areas, is raising awareness and educating the local community about various home care options as well as potential risks and liabilities associated with hiring an independent contractor or using a registry for home care. While everyone likes a bargain, especially in tough financial times, when it comes to home care, selecting the cheapest price for care can result in some very expensive implications. As the economy struggles, it’s hard to avoid the sordid stories of scammers and criminals preying on the weak and vulnerable. When it comes to the frail elderly, the stories of exploitation are doubly unsettling. For those whose loved ones are cared for in their own homes, some dark questions may linger: Are you inadvertently putting your loved ones at risk? There are several models of in-home care providers, and their similarities and differences can be confusing. We believe it is important for people to be armed with information on the different types of home care. Registries, also known as referral services or nursing registries, match independent contractors to clients and patients. In these cases, the registry serves as the middle man to match independent workers to clients seeking home care but these workers are not actually employed by the registry. Private duty agencies, like Live Free Home Health Care, provide caregivers who are employed, bonded, insured and licensed.

How Harris’s Medicare Plan Could Make At-Home Care for Older Adults Easier | Scientific American

Harris recently proposed a Medicare plan that would cover at-home health aides and other long-term care services, which could provide much needed relief to older adults and caregivers Navigating long-term health care for older adults is an agonizing challenge faced by millions of people across the U.S. The emotional, physical and financial costs can be overwhelming for older adults who need care and for those who provide it—whether they are professional caregivers or family members. If it passes, at-home aides who provide support for day-to-day activities, such as bathing, cooking and using the bathroom, would be covered for the first time ever by Medicare, the federal health insurance program for adults aged 65 and older and some people with disabilities. The proposal also maps out avenues to improve wages for professional care workers, expand access to remote technologies and telehealth services and cover hearing and vision needs, including hearing aids and eyeglasses.Based on the eligibility criteria of similar proposals, Harris’s plan could potentially help more than 14.7 million of the 67 million people enrolled in Medicare, as well as countless caregivers—but it rides on the results of the upcoming U.S.Demographic studies have found that human population growth is slowing down and family sizes are getting smaller—people have fewer cousins and siblings close in age to them and more relatives who are older. This means people will need to care for aging loved ones with decreasing family support.

Home care supply shortage due to mistakes by Ontario Health and Ontario Health atHome, sources say

Ontario Health atHome says it's doing everything it can and is "continuing to look for opportunities to stabilize the delivery of these critical medical items." Recent changes to procurement and delivery systems by two provincial agencies are to blame for an ongoing home-care medical supply shortage in Ontario, sources tell the Star, as patients and their caregivers continue to report they can’t get supplies when they need them. The current shortage stems from three problems introduced when Ontario Health and Ontario Health atHome changed the way supplies reach thousands of patients receiving care at home, according to industry insiders who have knowledge of the home-care medical supplies system but who are not authorized to speak publicly. The first, they say, is that the list of medical supplies and medications needed for home care wasn’t finalized until just before the new procurement and distribution system launched in September, which didn’t provide enough time to secure inventory before the launch. The sources say that both Ontario Health, which oversees health-care delivery in the province, and Ontario Health atHome, which co-ordinates in-home and community-based care, were warned by medical supply and distribution companies that expectations in the new procurement and fulfilment contracts weren’t realistic.

Kamala Harris’s “Medicare at Home” Plan Is Revolutionary. Why Aren’t We Talking About It?

She has a plan to help family caregivers in desperate need of relief. Meanwhile, the Republicans want to torch the Affordable Care Act. We need to start talking about how much pain this plan could save Americans.Advocates have been beating down doors for years trying to get someone to listen to the appeals from elderly spouses and overwhelmed adult children for some respite or relief from what Alzheimer’s activists refer to as “the thirty-six-hour day.” (My family has some, ahem, experience with this.) Estimates from the Alzheimer’s Association hold that some 11 million Americans are supplying unpaid home health care in these situations and that this labor-intensive work is worth an estimated $350 billion.Instead, the elite political press has greeted it with a self-satisfied shrug and moved on to whatever the daily fauxtrage is. Interestingly, though, House Speaker Mike Johnson had some thoughts to share about health care under a second Trump administration, and he shared them with an audience in Pennsylvania. In other words, according to Speaker Moses, the Affordable Care Act, whatever its flaws, seems to be working, and people seem to have become comfortable with it and have come to rely on its benefits, so now it’s time to blow it up in favor of whatever “concepts of a plan” his party’s standard-bearer blurts out from one cozy interview to another.
